My Sweet Kids

They are certainly not always sweet. In fact, sometimes my kids are downright mean, cranky, or wild (or all three at once). But, sometimes they do something so sweet that it just begs to be blogged about.

A couple weeks ago marked the one year anniversary of Ava's Adoption Day. Chad and I discussed (privately) how we wanted to celebrate the day. A party? Gifts? What? We decided that we didn't want to treat it like a birthday with cake and gifts because we didn't want the other kids to resent the idea of their sibling getting two birthday parties (complete with gifts) each year. And, Ava likes to be treated like the other kids, not differently. So instead we did a small family celebration. I made Ava's favorite dinner (Cashew Chicken) and we had a fun dessert.

Little did we know that when the kids would find out that we didn't have gifts for Ava, they would come up with some themselves.

After dinner, Brooke and Ashton disappeared upstairs. When they came down a few minutes later, they were carrying some of their favorite stuffed animals behind their backs. "Surprise! Happy adoption day!!!" they yelled as they gave her the stuffed animals.

Sometimes my kids really are sweet, aren't they? Remind me to go back and read this post the next time they are really annoying/loud/selfish/etc.
